Episode 42 - Living with Anxiety and Depression with Kim Jacobs, Your Anxious BFF
SHow Notes
Living with anxiety and depression is a lifelong journey. After hitting her “first time low”, Kim Jacobs, one of our beautiful friends, created her Youtube Channel, Your Anxious BBF. Her goal is to create a supportive community and safe space to talk, feel heard and understood. Join us as we discuss the following topics:
(1) After the First time Low
Kim worked with her therapist weekly and was diagnosed by ADHD Inattentive, which affects concentration and focus.
Realizing through the long process that it is important to be happy with the little accomplishments too - like taking a shower.
We talk about our “baseline” anxieties and how depressive thoughts can feel “normal”
(2) Finding a Therapist is like Dating
It can take some time for us to find a fit and vibe with someone that we can be vulnerable with
Give it a couple tries because it might be awkward. At the beginning, we didn’t know how to open up and express our feelings in our sessions, and we appreciate how oversharing comes more easily for GenZ.
(3) Standards + Anxiety + Negative Thoughts
The struggle of performing similarly to our friends and how there is an ideal of women having to remember events, be “the organized one” and be clean. And when we feel that we cannot meet this standards, it can be viscous circle of feeling inadequate.
There can be negatives thoughts that are situational and there are negative thoughts that are constant.
Everyone is different and responds differently to methods, so do what works for you.
(4) Working through Triggers
Mindset impacts and doing things that we regret in the moment of being triggered.
When imposter syndrome occurs in the workplace (i.e promotions and end-of-the-year reviews).
